Discover the Breathtaking Mara North Conservancy – Flash McTours
Mara North Conservancy
Established in 2009 the Mara North Conservancy resulted from the collaboration of conservation officials and more than 800 local Masai landowners. The Mara North provides outstanding wildlife viewing experiences as guests are given access to some of the most remote parts of the bush. Within the Conservancy area can be found both migratory and permanent wildlife including copious numbers of the so-called Big 5: elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes and rhinos. Each year countless thousands of wildebeest also migrate through the Mara North presenting a truly spectacular sight.
Hyenas, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs, cheetahs and much more.
More on the Mara North Conservancy
The Mara North Conservancy covers nearly 70,000 acres of land and is located in the northern part of the greater Masai Mara ecosystem. Northwestern parts of the Mara North are breeding grounds for big cats who prefer the cool, safe environment and are known to hide their young in caves on the local hillsides. Unlike in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, there are no fences in Mara North. Wildlife is free to roam in and out of the area at any point at any time of the year. Many experts claim that wildlife viewing is better in Mara North than in some parts of the better known Masai Mara National Park.

As we mentioned earlier the Big 5 – lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos – are well represented here. But the visitor will also find a multitude of hyenas, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs, cheetahs and much more. The Conservancy also plays host to more than 450 species of bird, making it a true bird watcher’s paradise.
A variety of safari experiences are possible from traditional 4-wheel drive excursions, to guided walks and even nighttime safaris. The largest number of game can usually be found between November and June, when herds find their way here to avoid predators hiding in the long grass of the nearby Masai Mara National Park. There are also opportunities to experience the local Masai culture.
