Whichever your circumstance, you’ll finish the day with a new appreciation for the story of Nairobi. Your day starts at the Karen Blixen Museum. You don’t have to have seen the movie Out of Africa to appreciate what this museum is all about, but it will add a fresh element. You will have chance to buy souvenirs in support of the conservation and charity work being done that you explore, as well."

## Tour facts

- Duration: 1 day
- From: USD 140

## Itinerary

### 1. Nairobi - Karen Blixen, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center & Kazuri Bead Center

While the day is still cool, we’ll pick you up early and head to the Karen Blixen Museum. Here you have the chance to learn about twentieth century colonialism in Kenya, at the home of the writer of the book Out of Africa. The museum is located in her former house and offers insight into the era in which the land was used as a farm. Following your introduction to Nairobi’s human history, it’s time to head out towards to edge of the city and visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Here you’ll see no elephant riding or performance; for just one hour each day the baby elephants being gently rehabilitated are able to be watched as they feed and play in the place that they call home. There’s even a wonderful opportunity to adopt one of the elephants that you see on the day. Lunch will be hearty local fayre, followed by more natural exploration at the Giraffe Centre Kenya. Sanctuary is offered to the extremely endangered Rothschild giraffe, with rescue and breeding efforts for this magnificent beast being led by the organisation. To round off your day in the surrounds of Nairobi, you will visit the Kazuri Bead Centre, learning about the processes to create ceramic beads and local pottery by socially excluded women. The centre offers a dignified path to empowerment for single mothers and offers them invaluable skills. A chance to buy some of the bespoke jewellery and homeware isn’t one to be passed up. Once you’re done with your tour of Kenya’s capital, we will take you to your hotel or residence around Nairobi.
