## Itinerary

### 1. Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve

Rise early to be met by your safari guide at 7.30am. We’ll collect you from your hotel, residence, or from the international airport and get moving straight out into the wilds as we take your straight to the Masai Mara. The Westward journey will take you through the countryside of Kenya and give you chance to take in views of local farms and villages that dot the highways. Arrival will coincide with your lunch that will be waiting at the camp or lodge of your choice. Take some time to get comfortable before heading out on the first on many game drives you will experience on your African safari. The big five of African safari are all here, along with some wonderful animals you may not be familiar with, like: Thomson’s gazelles Topi Bat-eared foxes Elands Duikers But you’re sure to learn about them and hopefully fall in love with them just the same. Safaris can be tiring, so after your first day out exploring the plains of the Masai Mara, head back to your accommodation for dinner and a restful sleep. ### 2. Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve

The preceding afternoon’s dip into the Masai Mara was nothing compared to your full day out in the park. Heading into the depths of the grasslands will give you more chance to spot some of the rarer sights of the savanna, and being out and driving all day affords you that opportunity. After breakfast, your guide will take you out into the park in search of the big five of African safari as well as your favourite animals; tell them what you’re looking for and they will use their expertise to try and fulfil your desires. Lunch will be served picnic style right in the heart of the park and surrounded by the beauty that no doubt drew you to come on safari in the first place. The afternoon gives you a wonderful chance to learn about the humans who inhabit this landscape alongside the stunning animals. The Masai people have grazed their cattle on these lands since time immemorial and you are invited to one of their villages where you will be greeted by a song and dance that is part of their traditions. Once welcomed, you have the chance to look around the village and learn about their culture and even get to see inside one of their homes. This special and optional experience has an extra fee of $20 per person to participate. Evening will be spent at your camp of lodge with dinner and plenty of time to unwind and relax. ### 3. Masai Mara National Reserve - Lake Nakuru National Park

To say goodbye to the Masai Mara you will have one last game drive after your breakfast, as you depart from the plains. The morning is a spectacular time to drive through the park with the light of a new day spilling over the land and the animals beginning their new day. Your journey to Lake Nakuru will take you into the volcanic ranges of the Great African Rift Valley, of which the lake is one of a series formed through geological activity. You will be served lunch picnic-style during your journey and arrive at the park and your chosen accommodation in the late afternoon. Take time to relax and drink in the atmosphere at your lakeside camp or lodge and listen to the songs and calls of the more than 450 bird species that live around the lake. Here is an ornithologist’s dream and even amateurs will appreciate the abundance of birds around the shores of the lake. Dinner is served at your accommodation and then you can rest up to prepare for another day of adventure. ### 4. Lake Nakuru National Park - Samburu National Reserve

Breakfast will be served and then you will be taken on a game drive through Lake Nakuru. Here live the big five of African safari; Buffalo Lions Elephants Rhinos Leopards Along with the birds and other animals such as Rothschild giraffes. You will also have chance to spot flocks of bright pink flamingos dance and display across the lake, a sight to behold against the blue waters. The next stop is Samburu National Reserve, as you begin to head north and pass over the equator into the northern hemisphere. The landscape gets rocky and your time in the park will be accompanied by two mountains: Koitogor and Ololokwe. Lunch will be waiting for you on arrival and there’s time to rest and take advantage of the facilities your camp or lodge have to offer. Late afternoon will send you out on a game drive to begin your exploration of this rugged and green landscape. Rhinos are sadly no longer in the park, but as a part of the Lion Conservation Unit in Kenya you have great chances of spotting the kings of the plains. After sunset out in the grasses and trees, dinner is available back at your accommodation. ### 5. Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

The life of Samburu is fed by the Ewaso Ng’iro River that flows through it. The waters keep the grasses greens, supply the riverine forests, and gives a home to the hippos and Nile crocodiles in the park, among myriad other wildlife. You’ll set out on your day of exploration after breakfast with the full day being spent in this diverse ecosystem. Some of the wonderful creatures you can expect to encounter during your time in Samburu include: Cheetahs Zebras Lions Giraffes Buffalo Gazelles And plenty more besides. During your time out looking for these amazing creatures your lunch will come in the form of a picnic, with no need to return to your camp or lodge. Evening is time for dinner, rest, and reflection on the days journey and wonders. ### 6. Samburu National Reserve - Olpejeta Conservancy

The sixth day of your Kenyan safari sees you venture to your last destination, Ol Pejeta. Before leaving Samburu, you will have breakfast and take a final game drive through the park and have one last opportunity to see some of the wonderful creatures that live here. Ol Pejeta is a former cattle ranch that has been turned into to charitably run, privately owned conservation centre. The work done here is internationally recognised and you will have the chance to learn and explore after you arrive and take lunch. The afternoon at Ol Pejeta will be spent on a game drive, looking for some of the wild animals that roam across the plateau of the highland plains. You have ample chance to view such game as: Elephants Hippos Rhinos Lions Buffalo And plenty more besides, in this wonderful project to conserve nature. After your initial exploration of the camp on your game drive you can return to your camp or lodge for dinner and a well-earned rest. ### 7. Full Day in Olpejeta Conservancy

This final, full day of your safari holiday offers extensive game drives and a chance to learn of the some of the conservation efforts undertaken at the park. After breakfast you will head out into the park to marvel at the animals and will also have the chance to visit the only chimpanzee population in Kenya. The Jane Goodall Institute was set up by the naturalist that gave it its name and provides sanctuary and rehabilitation to chimpanzees that have been taken advantage of and abused and cannot live a fully independent life. Here they are looked after and you can learn about the work completed with them. Your afternoon will also be spent out on the plains, watching the animals go about their lives in this most wonderful of settings. You may be lucky enough to spot some of the rhinos in the park, here due to conservation efforts to relocate populations away from hunters who want their horns. After a day of learning about and appreciating the landscape you will return to your accommodation for dinner. ### 8. Olpejeta Conservancy - Nairobi

To round off your journey through the habitats and landscapes of Kenya, take one final game drive after breakfast. You will have one final opportunity to spot the animals you’d longed to see and maybe find ones that you’ve only discovered on this safari. Your safari will end with a return drive to Nairobi, tracking south as you head down from the highlands and back to the bustle of city life. As one final goodbye to the grasslands of Kenya, you will be stopped for a traditional lunch before arriving back to reality. Upon arrival in Nairobi you can request to be dropped off at your hotel or residence, or at the airport depending on your onward travel plans.
