Today you will visit the fascinating Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is a refuge for orphaned chimpanzees or those rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, and was established with an agreement between Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The chimps originally come from West and Central Africa, and this is the only place to see these charismatic apes in Kenya. You view them from a raised walkway overlooking their vast natural enclosures on islands separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River. Later you have the unique opportunity of going on a lion tracking excursion by vehicle. A few of the lions at Ol Pejeta have been fitted with radio collars, and you accompany the specialised lion trackers as they search for their signal, and then spend time with the pride once they are located. Dinner conversation this evening at Sweetwaters Serena Camp will undoubtedly be about the day’s exciting wildlife encounters. Overnight in Ol Pejeta Conservancy Accommodation at your Camp Breakfast, lunch and dinner included Drinking water, all other drinks are extra

### 3. Ol pejeta Conservancy – Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast depart to the scenic Lake Nakuru in the Great Rift Valley, where you will arrive in time for lunch at your attractive lakeside camp/lodge. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake and is renowned for its spectacular birdlife and you may well spot great white pelicans and great crested grebe among the more than 350 migratory bird species. The lake shore also attracts giraffe, zebra, gazelle, eland and families of warthog. In the afternoon, we go for a game drive in nearby Lake Nakuru National Park, which is home to both the white and black rhino, rare Rothschild giraffe, and numerous antelope including gazelle, waterbuck and impala. Lion and leopard are frequently seen, and at the scenic lookout points on the cliffs overlooking the lake, you’ll spot playful baboons and vervet monkeys. Return to your camp/lodge at Lake Nakuru for dinner and overnight. You arrive in time for lunch at your camp/lodge and then go for an afternoon game drive. Look out for the herds of herbivores like waterbuck, zebra and Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, all expertly identified by your Kenyan safari guide. Depending on the season, you may witness the annual wildebeest migration, when an estimated two million hooved animals move between the Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park following the rains and fresh pastures. Other predators like jackal, hyena and bat-eared fox can be seen on the prowl in the early morning, the acacia woodlands are inhabited by giraffe, eland, impala, topi and hartebeest, and the Mara River is home to half-submerged hippos and some of the biggest crocodiles in Africa. An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged for US$425 per person, and it’s a wonderful experience to float over the plains and rivers in the first light of dawn and watch the wildlife below. Visiting a Maasai village is another optional extra for US$20 per person, and this is an interactive introduction to the culture of the semi-nomadic Maasai warriors who have a deep and symbolic relationship with the lands and animals of the Mara.
