Jambo! Welcome to Kenya. Our 2-day Tsavo East Safari from Mombasa was designed especially for those who’d like to add a safari flavour to their Kenyan beach holiday. Accordingly, we’ve selected the renowned Tsavo East National Park as our go-to destination. Your wildlife adventure starts at a designated meeting point along the coast, from which you will be transported in comfort by road directly to Tsavo East. Once there, you will enjoy two exhilarating game drives and the hospitality for which southern Kenya is famous. This semi-arid park is home to several species not often seen this far south, as well as red-dusted elephants and maneless lions.
Throughout the journey, you will be well looked after by an Africa Flash McTours professional guide, who will ensure you remain informed and entertained from start to finish. We transport our guests in comfortable, custom-built vehicles, equipped with all you will need for your convenience and comfort.
(185 km, 3 to 4 hours)
In the morning, your appointed Africa Flash McTours guide will meet you at your hotel or resort, whether it be in Mombasa, Watamu or Malindi. From there, we will travel westwards for roughly three hours to our destination: Tsavo East National Park. You’ll note that as we progress west, the vegetation and landscape change, getting drier and flatter with each passing kilometre.
Tsavo East National Park is vast, covering 13,747 km2 (5,308 sq mi) of flat, semi-arid grasslands. The climate of this region is typically hot and dry, with daytime temperatures in the low thirties Celsius, cooling to the low twenties overnight. From June to October, during the dry season, game viewing is at its best as wildlife tends to congregate near water. During the wet season, from November to May, rainfall peaks in November and April. There is also a ‘dry window’ in January/February.
Tsavo East is home to the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo and rhino, although the park’s few black rhinos are seldom seen. Of the other four species, Tsavo’s lions and elephants are somewhat unique. Unusually, the manes of the male lions are sparse to non-existent. And, its elephant population has ochre-coloured skin. After doing some game viewing, you’ll check in at your appointed accommodation and enjoy a sumptuous meal before retiring for the night.
We have multiple amount of accommodations, which fits any type of budget
Voi Safari Lodge is strategically situated Safari Lodge, in one of the World’s Largest Game Parks – the Tsavo National Park. It stands high above the town of Voi overlooking a vast expanse of the African Bush.
Ashnil Aruba Lodge lies in the heart of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Its location is superb, just a couple of hours from the coast of Mombasa, 5 hours leisurely drive from Nairobi.
Satao Camp delivers the ultimate safari experience: thrilling adventure and impeccable service. The Camp is a true oasis which attracts thousands of animals for their daily drink and bathing.
(185 km, 3 to 4 hours)
Rising early, savour the changing colours on the horizon as the sun warms the landscape. We’ll set off on a game drive while it is still relatively cool and the wildlife is still active. Other species to keep a lookout for include cheetah, spotted hyena, hippo, zebra and Masai giraffe. The semi-arid habitat is home to several species of birds not found in other popular Kenyan parks. In all, some 500 species have been recorded, including the rare Somali ostrich. Easily spotted against the dry surroundings, Tsavo’s ‘red-skinned’ elephants get their unique colouration by wallowing and dust-bathing in the area’s reddish soil.
After returning to the camp for breakfast, we set out once again to see what animals are visiting the various water holes before finally leaving the park. En route back to your drop-off point, we break for lunch at an open-air restaurant. Arriving back at the coast, it is time to bid farewell to your guide. ‘Out of Africa’ author, Karen Blixen, wrote, “There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne — bubbling over with heartfelt gratitude for being alive.” We hope your experience with Africa Flash McTours left you feeling the same way.
