(1.5 hours Flight)
This morning, your guide will meet you at your hotel. Depending on which is closer, you will then be transferred to either Diani or Mombasa’s Moi International Airport. From there, we board a scheduled 2-hour flight direct to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Touching down within the reserve, a safari vehicle will be standing by to greet you. As your safari adventure commences, keep a lookout for wildlife to be seen along the way.
Kenya’s flagship reserve, the Masai Mara, covers an area of 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and rises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. At this altitude, the climate is surprisingly mild considering its proximity to the equator. In fact, it can get quite cold at night and in the early morning, so we advise you to pack some warm clothing. Renowned for its prolific wildlife, the reserve forms part of the circuit followed by the Great Wildebeest Migration. With abundant prey species, the reserve is also home to a diverse array of predators.
On arrival, you’ll be shown your accommodation, and lunch will be served. After settling in, you’ll head out on an afternoon game drive before returning to camp for dinner and a well-earned rest.
We have multiple amount of accommodations, which fits any type of budget
Enkorok Mara Camp offers an unmatched safari experience within Kenya’s renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve. Our tented camp seamlessly blends-in with nature, offering our guests an ideal haven to delve into the marvels of the African wilderness.
The camp is located in Maasai Mara, Ololaimutiek village, Mendungii Hill, 3.5km from Oloolaimutia Centre. The camp is right inside Mendungii hill, an area considered important for both wildlife and indigenous trees.
Zebra Plains Mara Camp offers luxury tented rooms are furnished with all the amenities that you will require for a comfortable stay whilst visiting the Masai Mara.
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Masai Mara National Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature.
By virtue of its location and layout, the camp offers an unparalleled plethora of activities and experiences from luxury tented living to bird-watching, mini golf, sport fishing and a unique insight into the Maasai culture at the adjoining Maasai village.
Our luxury Masai Mara Camp is arguably in one of the very best positions in the Masai Mara for game viewing and also provides the perfect setting to sit and relax at the end of an exciting day of game drives.
Wildlife is the name of the game for the next two full days. Traditionally, game viewing is best in the late afternoon and early morning. As such, you’ll be off to an early start. After breakfast, we’ll board the custom safari vehicle and set off in search of wildlife. It is useful to note that many of the vehicles looking for wildlife are in radio contact, so should something exceptional be seen in your vicinity, your guide will know about it and take you there if possible.
For many, the Big 5 sit at the top of the checklist. So named by olden day hunters, these animals are said to be the five most dangerous animals to hunt on foot (in Africa), the group includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and Cape buffalo. All five species occur in the area, although rhinos are only occasionally seen.
At lunchtime, you will stop for lunch and a good stretch before continuing for the afternoon.
In theory, the best chance of seeing the big cats in action is after dark. However, cheetahs do most of their hunting during the day to avoid losing their kills to nocturnal predators like lion, hyena and leopard.
In the late afternoon, you’ll return to camp in time for dinner. Then, fall asleep to the sounds of the African night.
Once again, the day starts with breakfast at dawn before heading out to explore the marvels of the Mara. Your guide is an expert in bushcraft, often with years of experience. They know how to ‘read’ the bush and have an uncanny ability to predict where animals will be. Keen-eyed, they follow descending vultures to last night’s lion kill. Like city folk reading the news, professional guides learn all they need to know by reading the signs of the wild.
Should your visit coincide with the migration (between July and October), you will see why it is called the Greatest Show on Earth. Massive herds of over 2 million wildebeest and a similar number of other herbivores criss-cross the reserve in search of grazing. That said, outside of the migration period, these species and others are readily seen throughout the reserve. Giraffes are conspicuous in their height, while warthogs look comical as they take the knee while foraging for roots. Primates, such as baboons and vervet monkeys, add comical value to the day, while the bustling activities of banded mongooses are always fascinating.
Whether you’ve seen the Big 5, the migration, or spent moments of tranquillity at a river viewpoint, you’ll return to camp exhilarated. Share stories around the campfire before dinner, before retiring to bed.
(1.5 hours Flight)
As the sun rises over the grasslands of the Masai Mara National Reserve, it is time to reflect on all you have experienced. No doubt, you’ll have many fond memories to share with your loved ones back home.
Before leaving, you’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast spread. Then, it’s time to leave for the airstrip to catch a flight back to your departure point, either Mombasa International or Diani Airport.
Touching down, it is time for the Africa FlashMc Tours team to wish you a fond farewell. As you wait to board your next flight, ponder these words from author Francesca Marciano, “Why is it you can never hope to describe the emotion Africa creates? You are lifted. Out of whatever pit, unbound from whatever tie, released from whatever fear. You are lifted, and you see it all from above.”
With this in mind, start planning your return. We would love to host you again!
