The park is so named because it is accessible only by foot and its dense, primeval environment is essentially unchanged from how it was 25,000 years ago.
Mountain gorillas are the rarest subspecies of gorilla with some 600 calling the Bwindi home and the remainder occupying the high volcanic mountains of northwest Rwanda.

Safari visits both the incomparable Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Kibali National Park. The Kibali itself is a relatively small park but it shares a border with the Queen Elizabeth National Park and together the two create a more than 100-mile long wildlife corridor.
Kibali National Park is home to a large population of chimpanzees and other primates, including the endangered red colobus monkey and L’Hoest’s monkey.
The primeval environment has remained essentially unchanged for more than 25,000 years and plays host to approximately 600 rare mountain gorillas.
