Take a boat trip to indulge your lust for nature.
Discover Africa together with your beloved person in the Honeymoon Safari
Zanzibar is an intoxicating tropical island in the Indian Ocean, just 25 km off the coast of mainland Tanzania. It is famed for its atmospheric capital of Stone Town, one of the best preserved historical cities on the East African coast, as well as stunning white-sand beaches backed by palm trees and lapped by warm clear seas. Zanzibar has pleasing weather all year round due to its position near the equator, and a holiday here is probably just about any couple’s dream honeymoon destination or what every family needs for a dose of Vitamin Sea! Whether you’re ending a Tanzania wildlife safari in the national parks, or preparing to head to one, or simply want to relax in this gorgeous paradise, Zanzibar is the perfect island escape and will not let you down. On this 5-day holiday, there is plenty of time for lazing on the white sands of Nungwi Beach in the north of the island and trying the several water sports on offer. And we also include interesting sightseeing excursions such as a walking tour of historical Stone Town, a visit to the spice plantations, which originally drew the Sultans of Oman to Zanzibar, and a visit to Jozani Chwaka National Park to see Zanzibar’s wildlife.

Zanzibar’s dramatic history includes Arab sultans, Portuguese seafarers, European explorers and the slave trade, all of which left their mark on the capital. You stay at Tembo House Hotel, which offers good amenities such as Wi-Fi and swimming pool, and from here you can discover eclectic shops and markets in the labyrinth of intriguing narrow alleyways, or walk along the atmospheric seafront before dinner.

This morning we go on a walking tour of Stone Town, when you can admire the beautiful Arabic architecture, sultans’ palaces and Zanzibar’s famous ornate carved doors. We visit the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum, the Arab Fort, and a mosque, among many other attractions, and you will meet the exceptionally friendly Swahili people as you explore the narrow alleyways and lively squares.
The Spice Tour is one of the most popular tours in Zanzibar, which historically was one of the world’s leading producers of spices such as clove, nutmeg and cinnamon and is how it earned the nickname of the ‘Spice Island’. You visit an organic farm to touch, smell and taste the spices, and learn their traditional uses in medicine, cosmetics and cooking. After this educational tour, we have a sumptuous lunch at our guide’s home, when you can also sample Zanzibar’s exotic fruits.
After lunch we take you to your beach resort, and on the way visit the delightful Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park—at 50-sq-km, this is Zanzibar’s only national park and its last remaining tract of indigenous tropical rain-forest and a biodiversity hot spot. On a nature trail and mangrove swamp boardwalk lined with impressive eucalyptus and mahogany trees, a guide will explain the medicinal properties of various plants, and you’ll see numerous butterflies, birds and small mammals, and hopefully the Zanzibar red colobus monkey which is endemic to the island. We will then head to our beach resort at Nungwi on Zanzibar’s north coast, a top favourite for its white sand, clear waters, and romantic sunsets and the perfect place to relax for a couple of days.
After breakfast enjoy a full day relaxing at Nungwi, which is right on the northernmost point of the island. It is traditionally a fishing village and dhow-building centre surrounded by banana palms, mangroves and coconut trees, but today is also home to some of Zanzibar’s most attractive beach resorts built in a traditional African-style with makuti thatched roofs. You can do as much or as little as you feel like, and can simply unwind in a Zanzibar hammock on the beach with a good book and a glass of your favourite beverage, or go snorkelling or scuba diving in the crystal-clear turquoise warm sea to see the coral reefs teeming with colourful marine life.
Another day in paradise at Nungwi and perhaps join in an informal beach volleyball match, stroll around the village and buy souvenirs, take a boat ride on a traditional white-sailed dhow with a local fisherman or take a peaceful stroll along the sand to watch the sunset. At dinner, enjoy the delicious coastal cuisine which could be seafood combined with Zanzibar’s famous aromatic spices that you tasted on the Spice Tour. You can also go to Nungwi’s popular strip of outdoor bars and restaurants and take your pick as you walk along the beach-side track between the hotels. This is an entertaining and lively place to head if you want to get out of the hotel for a drink or two
(63 kms, 1 - 2 hours)
On your last day, have a final leisurely breakfast in the sunshine and spend the morning relaxing by the pool or on the beach. In the afternoon, we will take you back to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight.
