Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is an award-winning gem of a hotel in one of the most beautiful settings in Tanzania. Seamlessly blended high into an acacia-lined ridge, our African-style lodge and infinity pool offer panoramic views across the Serengeti’s vast, endless grasslands, where lions and cheetahs stalk their prey and massive migrating wildebeest herds darken the landscape in a relentless search for fresh grazing grounds.
After breakfast, depart on an all-day game drive in the Serengeti National Park, with a packed picnic lunch. The term Serengeti means “endless plains” in the Masai language. On the central plains there are carnivores such as leopard, lion, hyena and cheetah. This park is the scene of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra that occurs between the Kenyan Masai Mara and the Serengeti. Various bird species can be seen here, including eagles, ducks, geese, egrets, vultures, secretary birds, ibis, stork, herons, kites, pelicans, cranes and guinea fowl. The Serengeti National park is arguably the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, with over 3 million large mammals. About 35 species of plains animals can be seen, including the “Big 5” – elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo. Other common species found here include hippo, giraffe, eland, impala and other antelope, baboons, monkeys and a profusion of over 500 species of birds. In May or early June each year, huge herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra begin their spectacular migration northwards. In their wake follow the predators, lion, cheetah and wild dogs, while vultures circle overhead.
