Tucked away in the northern corner of Tanzania is a diverse eco-system, packed with wildlife and gorgeous volcanic landscapes. Here, you’ll find everything you’ve imagined possible on safari in Africa, from magnificent beasts to the brightest pink flamingos.

This short Tanzania safari packs in plenty, with lakes, craters, and the iconic Serengeti park all included in your five days of exploration. Between these areas, you have plenty of chance to see the big five of African safari:

  • Elephant
  • Lion
  • Leopard
  • Rhino
  • Buffalo

Along with a wide range of other animals that are synonymous with African plains. It’s not just the lives of animals that will be revealed on this trip, there is an option to visit the museum of the anthropologist who began to piece together the earliest human history that originated in the area.

On your safari you are accompanied by an expert Tanzanian safari guide who is dedicated to the enjoyment of you and your group; there will be no one else on your tour. Since this is a private tour you can make adjustments to the itinerary, such as taking the trip in reverse order.

1 night Tarangire | 2 nights Serengeti | 1 night Ngorongoro

Itinerary

Arusha – Tarangire National Park

(120 km, 3 to 4 hours)

We shall pick you up from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro/Arusha airport and drive for approximately 3 hours to Tarangire National Park. You will have a full day game drive in this park and you will have your hot lunch served inside the park, later you will drive to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight
It’s the national park which herds of up to 300 elephants scrape the waterless river bed for alternative streams, while nomadic wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland mass the decrease lagoons. It’s the most attentiveness of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem – a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared Oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly practical. The only national park that hold the migrant during the dry season and welcoming home of different species of animal.

  • Accommodation at your camp or lodge
  • Overnight stay near Lake Manyara
  • Lunch and dinner, no breakfast
  • Drinking water, other drinks are extra

Tarangire National Park – Serengeti National Park

(290 km: 5 – 6 hours)

Following breakfast, it’s time to leave Tarangire National Park and move on to the world-famous Serengeti. You’ll wind your way through the countryside or Tanzania and pass over the higher ground near Ngorongoro Crater, where you’ll be returning to later. You’ll drive through the heart of the park as you journey through to the camp or lodge that you have chosen for your stay in the Serengeti.

Once you arrive at your accommodation, lunch will be served and you’ll be whisked away, back into the park for a full game drive. The Serengeti is vast and diverse, with the big five of African safari, as well as:

  • Zebras
  • Giraffes
  • Gazelles

And so many more that you must see to believe. If you’re lucky enough to take your safari in Tanzania during the great migration, the guide will be able to help you witness it; one of the biggest movements of animals in the world.

Full Day in Serengeti National Park

For an alternative way to view this part of the world, rise early and take a hot air balloon out over the park at the break of day. As the sun rises and spills light over the land you can watch the patterns of movement over the plains and listen to the magical dawn chorus as the grasslands awake for a fresh day. Once back on solid ground, you are treated to a champagne breakfast with views over the scenic landscape. For this optional activity there is an additional cost of $500 per person.

Whether you choose to take the balloon trip or stay on solid ground in a traditional game drive, you will have lunch, picnic style, in the middle of the park. This will give you as much time as possible within nature, able to appreciate the serenity and beauty of the Serengeti. Once you’ve had your fill, it’s off on another game drive for the afternoon. At this point you are invited to a village of the Masai people, a nomadic tribe that has herded their livestock over these lands for thousands of years. You’ll be greeted with a traditional song and dance and then given time to explore the village and learn of their culture. The entrance fee for this optional activity is $30 per person.

After a day packed with adventure and discoveries, you’ll return back to your camp or lodge in the early evening. Once you’ve had dinner, you will be able to relax and enjoy any of the facilities on offer before getting a sound night’s rest. The third day of your Tanzanian safari includes:

  • Accommodation at your camp or lodge
  • Overnight stay inside Serengeti National Park
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Drinking water, other drinks are extra

Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation

(160 km, 3 – 4 hours)

Start the day with breakfast at your camp or lodge and then embark on a game drive as you progress towards Ngorongoro Crater. On the way, you have the chance to visit Olduvai Gorge and the museum dedicated to the work of Dr David Leakey. This area is the cradle of humanity, where some of the oldest human bons have been found, along with the first evidence of humans using tools to shape the world around them. To be able to learn about this intriguing history, there is an additional entrance fee of $45.

Once you’ve learned your human history, it’s nearly time to return to nature, with a quick lunch at your accommodation on the rim of the crater. Once you’ve eaten, it’s time to drop down the 600m incline into possibly the most stunning natural theatre that there is on Earth. The crater walls provide protection to such animals as:

  • Zebras
  • Elephants
  • Lions
  • Giraffe
  • Wildebeest

And many more. Your guide will be able to explain the fascinating geological history that made the crater many millennia ago.

After a day of discovery of both natural and human history, it’s time for dinner and downtime. Take a chance to view the scenery from the windows and terraces of your accommodation, and don’t forget to look up at the stars, too. Your final full day of safari in Tanzania includes:

  • Accommodation at your camp or lodge
  • Overnight stay inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
