Virunga Lodge

Perched high on a ridge with commanding 360-degree views of the Virunga Volcanoes and the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, Virunga Lodge is among Rwanda’s most iconic lodges. The lodge’s stone bandas combine rustic character with refined details, handwoven textiles, large fireplaces, and private terraces that seem suspended above the landscape. Each banda is named after one of the volcanoes or lakes, reinforcing the intimate connection to this place.

Days here begin with coffee on your terrace as clouds roll across the caldera, and often end with sundowners overlooking the lakes. The lodge’s communal areas include a dining room and lounge with picture windows, a library, and a newly built spa. Virunga Lodge is also known for its conservation initiatives and deep investment in community development, including the creation of local schools and reforestation programmes.
