The 4-Day Masai Mara Fly-In Safari from Nairobi is designed for travelers who want to spend less time traveling and more time exploring one of Africa’s most incredible wildlife destinations. Beginning and ending in Nairobi, the safari includes pickup from your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, along with all transfers to and from Wilson Airport. A short flight of approximately 45 minutes takes you directly into the Masai Mara, where your safari begins almost immediately upon your arrival.
With three nights in the reserve and two full days dedicated to wildlife viewing, this itinerary is a deeper exploration of the Masai Mara ecosystem than shorter fly-in safaris. Accompanied by an experienced professional guide, you’ll venture across rolling grasslands, river systems, and open plains in a 4×4 Safari Land Cruiser in search of lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, hyenas, hippos, and countless other species. Depending on the season, you may also witness part of the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife events.

Whether you’re already in Nairobi at a hotel or residence, or are landing at Jomo Kenyatta airport that morning, we will come and collect you and take you over to Wilson Airport. From here, you will take a place down to the famed lands of the Masai Mara. During the flight you’ll be able to see some of the stunning Kenyan countryside from the air and arrive at the national reserve in style.
Once in Masai Mara, your guide will meet you and take you to your chosen accommodation. Here, you can relax, unpack your bags, and have your lunch. Following your first day exploring the Masai Mara, you will return to your camp or lodge for dinner and a well-earned rest. Accommodation options within the park will be equipped with terraces and picture windows so you can enjoy views across the landscape and listen to the gentle sounds of the night. The first day of your African safari includes:
For a truly magical experience in the Masai Mara, you are presented with the option of a dawn Hot Air Balloon Safari, with an additional cost of $425 per person. Start early, with pick-up at 5.15am, and head over to the ballooning site. You’ll be airborne and able to take in the spectacular views, with grasslands stretching as far as the eye can see, and herds of animals starting their morning. Back on solid ground, you’ll have a champagne breakfast, served in out on the plains as the sun begins to rise.
The rest of the morning is then for relaxation, with the chance to take advantage of spa treatments at your lodge or camp at additional costs. Once you’ve treated yourself and had your lunch, it’s time to hit the road once more to go on an afternoon game drive. This is another chance to take your adventure out into the park and find more of the beautiful animals the Masai Mara is so famous for.
After a day filled with activity and delight, it’s time to return to your accommodation for dinner and rest. The second day of your African safari adventure includes:
Rise early and head out into the Masai Mara for a sunrise game drive. Dawn is an enchanting time across the reserve, as the nocturnal animals head to the resting places and the creatures of the daytime emerge, fresh to tackle the day surviving on the grasslands. This is your chance to get the stunning early light for your photography and also capture the animals taking advantage of the cooler weather to hunt, preen, and play.
Breakfast will be served back at your accommodation and you’ll head straight back out to explore the Masai Mara. You’ll be able to follow different paths to your previous game drives and find even more the wonderful animals your travelled so far to see. Return to your camp or lodge for lunch and then end the day with a final, evening game drive.
The chance to punctuate your day with a sunset game drive will have shown you the full routine of the lands. Once sated from your day’s safari adventure, you’ll be served dinner and then have time to rest up in preparation for the following day. Included in the third day of your Kenyan safari is:

Upon arrival in Nairobi, our team will meet you and transfer you either to your hotel, residence, or directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, depending on your travel arrangements.

Flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara typically take around 45 minutes, depending on the airstrip serving your camp or lodge. This lets you spend significantly more time on safari and less time travelling.
A fly-in safari gets you to the Masai Mara in under an hour, compared to a road transfer that can take five to six hours each way. Flying means more time for game drives, less time on the road, and a far more comfortable start to your safari.
Flights to the Masai Mara depart from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. This is a domestic airport located approximately 20 to 30 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and around 15 to 20 minutes from most central Nairobi hotels, depending on traffic.
Yes. The Masai Mara has exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the year. While the Great Wildebeest Migration takes place between July and October, resident wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and buffalo can be seen in every season.
The best time depends on the experience you’re looking for. July to October is ideal for witnessing the Great Migration, while January to March brings excellent predator sightings and fewer visitors. The green seasons of April to June and November are quieter, with beautiful landscapes and excellent birdlife.
Most safari flights allow a maximum of 15 kg (33 lbs) per person, including hand luggage. Bags must be packed in soft-sided duffel bags, as hard-shell suitcases cannot be accommodated on the aircraft.
Absolutely. Families are welcome on most Masai Mara safaris. Children under three years old generally stay free of charge, while children aged three to twelve years are usually charged less of the adult rate. Some camps also have family tents and activities designed specifically for younger travellers.

Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, a light jacket for early mornings, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera with spare batteries or memory cards. Remember that luggage is restricted to soft bags weighing no more than 15 kg.

Flights Notice
When taking domestic flights between parks, it is important that you only carry soft sided bags rather than hard-cased suitcases. There is a strict limit of 15kg, or 33lbs, combined for each passenger’s luggage, including hand luggage. Excess baggage will be charged by the airline directly at check in. Please also ensure that you are carrying your passport, or other official identification.
