From here we take an excursion to Lake Nakuru National Park, which has the best chance in Kenya to get close to black and white rhino among numerous other species.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the best game reserves in the world, and the plains teem with animals and it’s the stage for the spectacular annual wildebeest migration. In the Great Rift Valley, we visit tranquil and scenic Lake Elmenteita, which with over 350 species offers superb bird-watching.  A huge variety of African animals can be seen on this action-packed safari, and you have an excellent chance of spotting the Big Five: Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino!

Full day in Ol pejeta Conservancy

Today you will visit the fascinating Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is a refuge for orphaned chimpanzees or those rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, and was established with an agreement between Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The chimps originally come from West and Central Africa, and this is the only place to see these charismatic apes in Kenya. You view them from a raised walkway overlooking their vast natural enclosures on islands separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River. Later you have the unique opportunity of going on a lion tracking excursion by vehicle. A few of the lions at Ol Pejeta have been fitted with radio collars, and you accompany the specialised lion trackers as they search for their signal, and then spend time with the pride once they are located. Dinner conversation this evening at Sweetwaters Serena Camp will undoubtedly be about the day’s exciting wildlife encounters.

Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast and with packed lunches that will be served picnic-style in the bush, a full day is spent game-driving. On the grassy tree-studded plains and around the rocky kopjes look for the big cats, and the Masai Mara is famous for its large prides of lion and cheetah that are seen hunting in family groups. Other predators like jackal, hyena and bat-eared fox can be seen on the prowl in the early morning, the acacia woodlands are inhabited by giraffe, eland, impala, topi and hartebeest, and the Mara River is home to half-submerged hippos and some of the biggest crocodiles in Africa. An optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged for US$425 per person, and it’s a wonderful experience to float over the plains and rivers in the first light of dawn and watch the wildlife below. Visiting a Maasai village is another optional extra for US$20 per person, and this is an interactive introduction to the culture of the semi-nomadic Maasai warriors who have a deep and symbolic relationship with the lands and animals of the Mara. An overnight at the Masai village can be organized on request.
