Chimp trekking is available year-round, but the long dry season (June – September) provides the most comfortable conditions and easier navigation through the forest. The short dry season (December – February) also offers strong visibility and energetic troop movement through the canopy.
The Canopy Walk is an unforgettable highlight in Nyungwe, and June – February offers clearer views across the rainforest and optimal footpath conditions leading to the bridge. Misty moments are common but beautifully photogenic.
Nyungwe is a dream destination for birders. October – April is peak viewing season, when migration and breeding behavior bring spectacular sightings, especially of Albertine Rift endemics hidden deep in the foliage.
For crisp views over Nyungwe’s rolling rainforest ridges, June – September delivers atmospheric clarity and dramatic sunlight. During October – April, rich greens, clouds, and mist create moody, magazine-worthy compositions.
Nyungwe National Park has a cool, humid montane rainforest climate, with regular mist and fresh mountain air year-round. Daytime temperatures generally range from 50 – 75 °F (10 – 24 °C).

Nyungwe remains cool throughout the year due to its elevation, typically 50 – 75 °F (10 – 24 °C). Both dry seasons offer the best hiking conditions, while rainy months enhance rainforest photography and biodiversity.
