The 4-Day Masai Mara Fly-In Safari from Nairobi is designed for travelers who want to spend less time traveling and more time exploring one of Africa’s most incredible wildlife destinations. Beginning and ending in Nairobi, the safari includes pickup from your hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, along with all transfers to and from Wilson Airport. A short flight of approximately 45 minutes takes you directly into the Masai Mara, where your safari begins almost immediately upon your arrival.

Depending on the season, you may also witness part of the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife events.
Beyond game drives, a fly-in safari also creates the opportunity to experience the Mara in different ways, whether through optional extras like guided walks that reveal the smaller details of the ecosystem, cultural encounters with Maasai communities, or the unforgettable perspective of a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the plains.
The safari package includes return flights between Nairobi and the Masai Mara, accommodation, park fees, game drives, meals as outlined in the itinerary, unlimited drinking water, emergency Flying Doctors cover, and the services of an English-speaking safari guide. You can choose from a range of carefully selected camps and lodges, from comfortable mid-range properties to luxury tented camps.

Flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara typically take around 45 minutes, depending on the airstrip serving your camp or lodge. This lets you spend significantly more time on safari and less time travelling.
A fly-in safari gets you to the Masai Mara in under an hour, compared to a road transfer that can take five to six hours each way. Flying means more time for game drives, less time on the road, and a far more comfortable start to your safari.
Flights to the Masai Mara depart from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. This is a domestic airport located approximately 20 to 30 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and around 15 to 20 minutes from most central Nairobi hotels, depending on traffic.
Yes. The Masai Mara has exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the year. While the Great Wildebeest Migration takes place between July and October, resident wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and buffalo can be seen in every season.
The best time depends on the experience you’re looking for. July to October is ideal for witnessing the Great Migration, while January to March brings excellent predator sightings and fewer visitors. The green seasons of April to June and November are quieter, with beautiful landscapes and excellent birdlife.
Most safari flights allow a maximum of 15 kg (33 lbs) per person, including hand luggage. Bags must be packed in soft-sided duffel bags, as hard-shell suitcases cannot be accommodated on the aircraft.
Absolutely. Families are welcome on most Masai Mara safaris. Children under three years old generally stay free of charge, while children aged three to twelve years are usually charged less of the adult rate. Some camps also have family tents and activities designed specifically for younger travellers.
Yes. The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s premier destinations for seeing the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, the reserve consistently offers some of the best game viewing on the continent.
A three-day safari is ideal for first-time visitors, enough time for several game drives and a good chance of seeing a wide variety of wildlife. Longer stays have a more relaxed pace and opportunities to explore different areas of the reserve.
Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, a light jacket for early mornings, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera with spare batteries or memory cards. Remember that luggage is restricted to soft bags weighing no more than 15 kg.
Most fly-in safari packages include return flights from Nairobi, airport transfers, accommodation, meals, scheduled game drives, park fees, and the services of professional guides. International flights, travel insurance, and optional activities such as hot air balloon safaris are usually excluded.
A deposit is generally required to secure your safari, with the balance payable before travel. Deposit amounts and payment schedules vary by lodge and season, and your safari specialist will explain the exact terms at the time of booking.
Cancellation policies vary depending on the accommodation and how close to departure the cancellation occurs. In most cases, cancellation fees increase as the travel date approaches. We recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance to protect against unexpected changes to your plans.
Yes. The Masai Mara combines beautifully with destinations such as Amboseli, Samburu, Laikipia, and Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast. Many travellers choose to pair their safari with a few days on the beach in Mombasa or Diani for the perfect bush-and-beach holiday.
