Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park (175 km – 3 to 4 hrs)

After breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel in Nairobi and depart for a scenic drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley.

Arrive in time for check-in and lunch. The rest of the day will be spent game viewing in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Apart from the wildlife, numerous sites of interest are accessible from Nakuru. These include Menengai Crater, a dormant volcano. From above, small fumaroles and steam vents can regularly be observed within the forested caldera. One of the largest volcanic craters in the world, it plunges 483m down from the rim.

Day 2 Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve (300 km – 5 to 6 hrs)

After breakfast, depart for Masai Mara, Kenya’s world-renowned game reserve. It forms part of the Great Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. It is home to the big five, namely, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino. Over 95 species of mammals are found in this great reserve.

Besides mammals, over 500 bird species have been recorded here, and the scenic beauty is unrivalled. After lunch, a game drive will allow you to spot the abundant wildlife in the park.

Expect to see zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, giraffe and olive baboons, in addition to the less common animals.

Day 3 Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve

The next two days will be spent game viewing in the expansive Masai Mara Game Reserve. Optional activities include taking a Mara Balloon Safari with champagne breakfast!

Masai Mara (or Maasai Mara) is known as Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve and famous for the abundance of game. It has one of the highest lion densities in the world. A distinct occurrence in the Mara is the annual Great Migration of over 2 million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelles. In addition, the Maasai people, well known for their distinctive customs and dress, make this game reserve in Kenya one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations.

Day 4 Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve

This is a day to relax and drink in the wonders and beauty of Masai Mara from the comfort of your accommodation. Spa treatments are an optional extra available at most accommodation options. Could there be a more perfect setting in which to have a relaxing massage than surrounded by the wonders of Mother Nature?

Visiting a Masai village is another optional extra.It’s a chance to explore the culture of these warriors who have a deep and symbiotic relationship with the land and animals of Masai Mara. You’ll be greeted with traditional song and dance and invited to explore a home in the village to further your understanding of their traditions. This activity has an extra fee of $20 per person.

Day 5 Masai Mara National Park – Serengeti National Park (350 km – 6 to 7 hrs)

After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s largest wildlife conservation area.

The Serengeti National Park is home to lions (it is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa), African leopard (those reclusive predators), African elephant, black rhinoceros – mainly found around the kopjes in the centre of the park – and African buffalo.

Day 6 Full Day in Serengeti National Park

You will be taken on morning and afternoon game drives and spend the rest of the day relaxing as you soak in the beauty of the Serengeti National Park.

The term Serengeti means ‘endless plains’ in the Maasai language. On the central plains there are carnivores such as leopard, hyena and cheetah. This park is the scene of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, which occurs between Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Eagles, flamingoes, duck, geese and vultures are among the birds that can be seen in the park.

Day 7 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area (215 km – 3 to 4 hrs)

Depart for Ngorongoro Crater, with a game viewing drive en route.

Descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro crater, with a stop for a picnic lunch at Ngoitoktok springs picnic site.

The Ngorongoro Crater has a population of approximately 25,000 large animals, with the highest density of mammalian predators in Africa. Large animals in the crater include the black rhinoceros and the hippopotamus, which is very uncommon in the area. There are also wildebeest, zebra, eland, and Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelles.

Day 8 Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Arusha - Nairobi (450 km – 7 to 8 hours)

After breakfast, depart for Arusha, stopping off at Arusha Coffee Lodge for lunch. Proceed to Nairobi via the Namanga border.
