If you want to see primates in their natural habitat there is nowhere on earth better for that than Kibale National Park. The park is renowned for its astonishing primate diversity and is home to 13 primate species including the red colobus monkey, the L’Hoest’s monkey, the blue monkey, the Ugandan mangabey, the common chimpanzee and more.
Kibale is also home to an array of mammals you won’t find anywhere but in East Africa, including red and blue duikers, bushbucks, giant forest hogs and bush pigs as well as African golden cats, leopards, servals and, on occasion, lions. And let’s not forget the more than 300 bird species that live in or move through the park.
The climate in Kibale National Park is moist and temperate. Temperatures stay almost the same year-round. Daytime temperatures are about 27°C/81°F, cooling off nightly to about 15°C/59°F. Kibale National Parks lacks a real Dry season as rain is possible anytime. However, December through February are typically drier and so are June and July.

Things to do in Kibale National Park
Here is just a small sampling of the things you can do while visiting Kibale National Park.
Chimpanzee tracking: There are nearly 1,500 chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and chimpanzee tracking will take you deep into the heart of the forest to find them. Chimpanzee tracking typically occurs in the morning hours when you can see the primates waking, patrolling and preparing to hunt. Along the way, you will see many other animals as well.
Bird Watching: There are hundreds of bird species in Kibale, making it an ideal location for bird watchers. The brown-crested alethe, little greenbul, brown illadopsis, yellow spotted nicator, African grey parrot, red-faced warbler and scores of other species await your discovery.
Nature walks: A nature walk through Kibale is an eye-opening experience and one that combines primate tracking with birding and cultural exchanges. On your trek through the park, you will no doubt encounter the local Batooro and Bakiga people, modern day descendants of Uganda’s first nations.
Take a nocturnal walk: A night walk through Kibale National Park is not like walking through the woods in your home country. In Uganda, the sights and sounds of the jungle will amaze you. You’ll see nocturnal creatures such as bush babies, pottos and tree pangolins as well as numerous birds that only come out in the dark. You’ll never think of the jungle in the same way again.
