A short one from late October through the end of November, and a long one from March to early June. Until recently visitors from many countries were able to obtain a visa on arrival. However, as of January 1, 2021, that is no longer the case and everyone must apply via the online application form before arriving in the country. The official languages are Swahili and English.  For business, government, and tourism, English is in common use.  At lodges, resorts, and in major cities, English is widespread.  Swahili is the predominant indigenous language.  Learning a few key phrases, such as Jambo (Hello), Kwaheri (Good bye), Hakuna Matata (No worries)… will enhance your travel experience, connecting you with the local people.

The Kenyan Shilling (KES) is the official currency of Kenya.  In tourist areas, US dollars are routinely accepted, so too when making larger purchases. Carry some local currency, to be used for smaller purchases and gratuities.  ATMs are common in major town centers.  Credit cards are accepted in large retail stores, restaurants, and all hotels/resorts while on your Kenya Safari.

Yes.  If you are arriving in Kenya from a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission, vaccination is mandatory.  Recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and rabies.  Always consult your travel health specialist prior to travel, making sure that your immunizations are up-to-date.  If you suffer from chronic conditions, get health advice tailored by your medical practitioner.  Certain drugs may be unobtainable in Kenya.

Our tour prices are inclusive of most safari expenses, with the exception of international flights, visas, laundry, and alcoholic beverages.  Take into account: optional gratuities, alcohol, and souvenirs.  Credit/debit cards can be used to settle some bills and are accepted in tourist establishments.

We recommend $10-15 per person per day for the guide at the end of the tour. Gratuities are Not Mandatory, and the amount is at your discretion based on your level of satisfaction.  At the end of hotel/lodge stays, you have the option of leaving a general gratuity for staff which will be fairly distributed.
