Mara North Conservancy is one of the greatest strongholds for lions and leopards in the Maasai Mara ecosystem. The long dry season (June – September) delivers prime predator viewing thanks to low vegetation and abundant prey on the plains. The short dry season (December – February) is equally exceptional, with frequent leopard sightings in riverine forests and cheetahs hunting across the open grasslands.

Though the Great Migration’s main river crossings occur further south, Mara North benefits from seasonal wildlife movements as zebra, topi, and wildebeest shift into the conservancy for grazing. These movements peak in the dry seasons (June – October and December – February), drawing predators and offering dramatic wildlife interactions.

Birdwatchers will find November – April the most rewarding period, when migratory species arrive and the conservancy’s riverine forests, plains, and escarpment edges come alive with sound and color. Dry months are ideal for spotting raptors soaring above the plains, while the wet season enhances breeding activity and diversity.

From June – September, crisp skies and long golden hours create perfect conditions for big cat photography and sweeping savanna landscapes. The green season (November – April) transforms Mara North into a canvas of emerald tones, dramatic cloud formations, and richly atmospheric light.
Mara North Conservancy enjoys a warm, pleasant savanna climate with cool evenings, bright skies during the dry months, and lush green landscapes during the rains. Daytime temperatures typically range from 70 – 82 °F (21 – 28 °C).
Mara North Conservancy enjoys warm days and cool nights throughout the year, with temperatures typically ranging from 64 – 82 °F (18 – 28 °C). Dry seasons offer superior visibility and concentrated wildlife, while the green season delivers lush scenery, breeding birds, and atmospheric skies.
