Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park Kenya

This 3-day Tsavo safari tour begins on the Kenyan coast and explores the red-soil plains of Tsavo East National Park and the hills of Tsavo West National Park. Tsavo East and Tsavo West are famous for their marauding lions, herds of elephants and scores of other game animals that roam their broad savannahs. You’ll be looking out for dozens of species on this short, easy, 3-day adventure.

Tsavo East National Park is the largest park in Kenya, and its sparse vegetation makes game spotting more accessible. You may see the unique Tsavo lions, whose males lack the familiar big manes. The elephants are known to roll in the park’s red dust, and their bright coats are conspicuous as they make their way to one of the famous watering holes.

Though close by, Tsavo West National Park offers a different experience, with its scenic hills, rich, deep colours and cool, clear springs. Expect to drive past the striking baobab trees as you track the Big Five:

  • Lion
  • Leopard
  • Rhino
  • Buffalo
  • Elephant

This diverse park also offers habitat for monkeys and baboons, and the rhino sanctuary is a feature of this visit. Let us know how you want to plan your safari vacation, and we’ll make it happen!

Day 1 Mombasa/ Kenya Coast – Tsavo East National Park (185 km – 3 to 4 hrs)

Early pickup from your Kenyan beach resort. Set out on the Mombasa – Nairobi highway.

The 120 km dawn drive takes us to the southern entry point of the Tsavo East National Park, where we stop briefly for refreshments (optional).

From the entrance gate, we do a game drive in the southern part of the reserve where you have the opportunity to spot:

  • Elephants
  • Gazelles
  • Giraffes
  • Monkeys
  • Zebras

And many more.

We then proceed to our accommodation, where we have lunch.

A relaxed afternoon game drive is scheduled for later in the day, with magnificent views of the African sunset.

  • Overnight in Tsavo East National Park
  • Accommodation at your camp or lodge
  • Lunch and dinner included
  • Drinking water is provided. All other drinks are extra.

Day 2 Tsavo East – Tsavo West National Park (60 km – Approx 1 hr)

We shall be up before sunrise! Dawn finds us set and ready for our early-morning game drive.

We will experience the splendor of an African sunrise that engulfs the savanna as we traverse the vast Tsavo East Park in search of the early grazers and hunters.

At 09:00 am we shall return to your lodge or camp for breakfast and then depart for Tsavo West National Park, with a relaxed mid-morning game en-route.

To make sure you get as much time as possible in the wilds of Africa, you will have a picnic lunch in the Tsavo West National Park. This is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world and your chances of seeing many species of animals in their natural habitat is incredibly high. We will also visit the rhino sanctuary before returning to your camp or lodge for dinner.

  • Overnight in Tsavo West National Park
  • Accommodation at your camp or lodge
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • Drinking water is provided. All other drinks are extra.

Day 3 Tsavo West National Park – Mombasa (205 km – 4 to 5 hrs)

Our final day on safari. Out with the sunrise for a pre-breakfast game drive. Nature is at its best at this time, with the predators out for the hunt and the herbivores browsing and grazing the dewy vegetation. Natural colors dominate the scenic volcanic terrain.

After a full breakfast at your camp or lodge, we shall venture out again… this time to visit the Mzima Springs, with more game viewing en route.

At the Mzima springs, we will take a nature walk as we marvel at sparkling clear waters and the surrounding greenery, which is a welcome reprieve in this semi-desert terrain. We will view hippos, crocodiles, colourful fish and unique migratory birds.

After leaving Tsavo West, we head back to the Kenyan coast, stopping en route for lunch at a town called Voi. We arrive in the late afternoon and drop you off at your beach resort or Mombasa Airport.

  • No accommodation included
  • Breakfast and lunch included, but not dinner
  • Drinking water is provided. All other drinks are extra.
