Tsavo East’s red-dusted elephants are seen year-round, but the long dry season (June – September) brings the clearest viewing as herds concentrate along the Galana River. The short dry season (December – February) is equally rewarding, with stable, warm weather and fantastic viewing along permanent water sources.

The open plains of Tsavo East support healthy lion and cheetah populations. June to September offers prime visibility, while December to February brings excellent predator activity with minimal vegetation.

Birdlife thrives in Tsavo East’s river corridors and grasslands. October to April is the best time to visit thanks to migratory arrivals and vibrant breeding activity, a dream season for photographers and birders.

For iconic red-earth landscapes and big-sky horizons, choose June to September. From October to April, the plains turn greener, creating dramatic backdrops, stormy skies, and striking sunrise/sunset contrasts.
Tsavo East National Park has a warm, semi-arid climate. Days are hot and dry, with cooler mornings and evenings. Typical temperatures: 72 – 95 °F (22 – 35 °C).
Tsavo East remains hot and sunny most of the year, averaging 70 – 95 °F (21 – 35 °C). Dry seasons provide the best game viewing, while wet seasons deliver lush backdrops and dramatic lighting for photography.
