Best Things About Samburu National Park
Bird watching – This part of Africa features some of the best bird watching on earth with more than 450 species known to inhabit or frequent Samburu.
Stargazing – At night all eyes in Samburu turn to the heavens. The pristine air makes for an unblemished view of the Milky Way as it presides over the primaeval landscape. Simply unforgettable!
Black rhinos – Thanks to conservation efforts in places like Samburu the number of critically endangered black rhinos has increased somewhat in recent years.
The variety of rare species – Samburu boasts an array of species you won’t find in every park, including Grevy’s “Imperial” zebras, reticulated giraffes, beisa oryx, and the Somali ostrich to name a few.
Samburu Cultural Interactions – You can visit the Samburu Tribe who, like the Masai, are nomadic pastoralists, moving from one place to another following patterns of rainfall in search of fresh pasture and water for their livestock.
The varied landscape – Samburu has one of the most varied landscapes of all the parks in this part of Africa. From breathtaking mountains to wide open plains, it’s all here.
Camel rides – During an earlier era Arab traders were common in central and eastern Africa and brought camels with them. The traders are gone but the camels remain and you can hop on for a guided tour.
Samburu provides a range of experiences you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. If you are looking for a park to be the focus of your safari vacation, Samburu is the ideal choice.
