Because of its location on the equator, the climate in Kenya is quite pleasant. Temperature and rainfall do vary depending on the altitude and terrain. There are 2 rainy seasons. A short one from late October through the end of November, and a long one from March to early June. Most people believe the best time for a Kenya safari trips is during the two dry seasons; from January to March and July to October. The dry conditions make game viewing excellent, particularly during the Great Migration (July to October). Sunny days giving way to cooler evenings. Ideal whether at the beach or on safari.
People coming for Kenya safari holidays, or Kenya safari tours will need a Visitor Visa which they can apply for here . Until recently visitors from many countries were able to obtain a visa on arrival. However, as of January 1, 2021, that is no longer the case and everyone must apply via the online application form before arriving in the country. Check the application form page for a full list of required documents for your safari trip.
The official languages are Swahili and English. For business, government, and tourism, English is in common use. At lodges, resorts, and in major cities, English is widespread. Swahili is the predominant indigenous language. Learning a few key phrases, such as Jambo (Hello), Kwaheri (Good bye), Hakuna Matata (No worries)… will enhance your travel experience, connecting you with the local people.
The Kenyan Shilling (KES) is the official currency of Kenya. In tourist areas, US dollars are routinely accepted, so too when making larger purchases. Carry some local currency, to be used for smaller purchases and gratuities. ATMs are common in major town centers. Credit cards are accepted in large retail stores, restaurants, and all hotels/resorts while on your Kenya Safari.

Yes. Generally speaking Kenya is a Safe Tourist Destination, the popular tourist destinations, national parks, and major cities are safe for visitors. Nevertheless, apply standard travel safety practices such as not venturing out alone after dark, being aware of your surroundings, and safeguarding valuables. Inform yourself of any travel advisories and follow the advice of your tour operator and the Kenyan authorities.
The ideal safari wear is lightweight, neutral colored, and breathable. At times, especially at altitude, the weather can be very cold, so wearing layers, along with some warm clothing is recommended. Sun protection is equally vital – sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat. Keep comfortable with good walking shoes, insect repellant, and a reusable water bottle. Keep a small first aid kit and personal medications in a convenient place. Don’t forget a camera and binoculars. Here is a Complete Packing List for a Kenya Safari.
Abundant wildlife, panoramic landscapes, and colorful cultural encounters make Kenya safaris a feast for the senses. Game drives and nature walks in the company of experienced guides provide insights into nature. Whether tracking the Kenya Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo) or listening to the nocturnal symphony, the experiences come thick and fast. Vistas range from snow capped mountains to sweeping savannahs.
The Kenya Big 5 can be photographed in the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, Laikipia Plateau and Tsavo National Parks, amongst others.
Consider your available time, budget, and interests. Typically, safaris last 5 to 10 days, incorporating various wildlife destinations, lodges, and landscapes. More time on safari means more time to explore and relax. In contrast, a 3-4 day safari in the Maasai Mara or Amboseli can still provide ample time to see amazingly diverse wildlife at a sedate pace.
Kenya is a treasure trove of biodiversity and home to some of the world’s most compelling animals. The abundance of wildlife in Kenya is legendary so, depending on your itinerary, you can expect to see:
And more…
The crown jewel of Kenya’s national parks is undoubtedly the Masai Mara National Reserve – famous host of the Great Migration. Amboseli, in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro boasts large elephant herds. Tsavo is known for tree-climbing lions, while Lake Nakuru is a haven for birdwatchers.
Absolutely! If nothing else, Kenya’s magic lies in its diversity; be it wildlife, birds, landscapes, or cultures. Many of our itineraries intentionally include complementary wildlife destinations within reasonable traveling distances from one another. Why limit yourself to the Great Migration, when you can savor the scenery of Amboseli, and the shimmering birdlife of Lake Nakuru too.
Africa FlashMC Tours provide highly experienced Safari Guides to introduce you to the wildlife and wonder of Kenya’s national park system. Able to provide insightful commentary on the wildlife, ecology, and cultures of the region, they add color with contemporary knowledge and traditional wisdom.
WiFi is available in the public areas of all the hotels/lodges used by Flash McTours. Not all rooms have WiFi in the rooms. Mobile phone reception for calls and data is available, but varies in strength at the various national parks, reserves, and conservancies. We suggest buying a local Safaricom SIM card. Data can be arranged via our Safari Vehicle Hotspots.
Our tour prices are inclusive of most safari expenses, with the exception of international flights, visas, laundry, and alcoholic beverages. Take into account: optional gratuities, alcohol, and souvenirs. Credit/debit cards can be used to settle some bills and are accepted in tourist establishments.
We recommend $10-15 per person per day for the guide at the end of the tour. Gratuities are Not Mandatory, and the amount is at your discretion based on your level of satisfaction. At the end of hotel/lodge stays, you have the option of leaving a general gratuity for staff which will be fairly distributed.
Kenyan culture is colorful and multi-faceted. Perhaps the most familiar are the Maasai, pastoralists at home on the sweeping savannah. Historic Lamu showcases a unique culture shaped by African, Arab, European, and Asian influences. Coastal culture is exemplified in Swahili and Muslim tradition
Certainly. We believe that our communities are as intrinsic to Kenya’s success as its wildlife. At Africa FlashMC Tours, we are intimately involved in a number of upliftment initiatives. We take great pride in sharing our successes, particularly on the outskirts of our national parks, with our guests. Your support of local craftspeople, educational drives, and the jobs your patronage provides are among the things that drive our passion for excellence and upliftment.
As the tallest mountain in the country, Mount Kenya’s status in Kenyan culture is impossible to deny. For our Kikuyu people, Mount Kenya is sacred land, shared with all as a symbol of national pride and unity. Its mere presence creates economic opportunities through agriculture and tourism.
